Starting a new mystery quilt!

This will be the 4th "Bonnie Hunter Mystery Quilt" I've done.    I love the whole process from picking out my fabrics, sewing each clue, (without an idea of what the finished quilt will look like) to putting in the last stitch.

Bonnie gives guidelines.  Here is the link for her first clue.  For colors and I'm always a little fearful to stray to far from her suggestions.    This year I am switching out her pinks for a  pinkish purple.   My yellow also has a little greenish tint to it. 

The picture below is my stack of fabrics I've chosen with the possibilities of using the standing bolt in back for the quilt backing.   These colors are a little off in the pic.

This week our clue was to make 100 of these units.

It's been nice getting back to some sewing after a busy fun filled Thanksgiving.

I had lots of help with the meal this year.  Alicia made her "turkey shaped rolls", Diana brought string bean cassarole, Queena furnished the lettus salad and Holly baked the turkey.  All I had to do was the pies and mashed potatoes.

 

Here are four of our fourteen grandchildren.   I'm hoping we get to be with all 14 at Christmas.

We've sure enjoyed having Queena and Ethan with us for a couple weeks before they headed up to New York to be with Ethan's family.

I spent a couple days helping Dorie and James get use to the sewing machines.  They are each starting a little quilt and both finished three of the nine blocks needed.  We'll try and finish them this next summer.

A Birthday Post!

Isaiah Truth turned one October 22 and I am this late getting it posted.  Opps!

Alicia furnished the evening supper.  Yummy pulled pork sandwiches, salad and cupcakes!

Great-grandma Alene and her sister Aunt Freida also graced our table.

I loved the laughter around the table.

Now today we have another birthday.

What fun to surprise her with this small quilt.

She knew I was making it, but I let on I was making it for me as a lap quilt.

Last evening we took her out to "The Fishery" in Rehobeth and now this evening she is celebrating with a whole bunch of her friends.

We each chose a different kind of fish.  All fresh!  Tilapia, Salmon, Halibut, and Tuna.

September Sewing Circle

After taking the busy summer months off it is a treat getting back to our monthly church sewing circle.

I'm not the only one who likes to sew bare footed!

Summer was still in the air!  Instead of a soup luncheon we asked everyone to bring a salad.

Hands were kept busy knotting this cheaters cloth comfort top.

We had four ladies busy at the sewing machines.

We are piecing a scrappy quilt called "Scrappy Majestic Mountains".  I brought the squares home and started putting some of the rows together.  This has really been a fun quilt to piece.

The one in the back ground is one of my projects here at home.  I am making it just using fabric from my scrap bin.

Another project that we do at sewing circle is make these warm stocking caps that are donate to GAIN Ministries.  These are some  that two men from our congregation made over the summer.

The girls at sewing are making and adding these cute flower pompoms on some of them.

 

Darlene does a great job at binding most of the comfort tops that are knotted.

Rebecca and Abe's Wedding

This past week-end we made a quick trip to Va. to the wedding of Rebecca to Abe.  Rebecca is the daughter of my youngest sister Barbara.

The morning of the wedding Holly and I along with my sister Coleen and her daughter Claire B. went down to the church to help Barbara assemble 40 fresh peach pies.

Barbara was so organized.  The pie shells were all baked and the filling made.  All we had to do was fill them and stack in the refrigerator.   For the meal they had grilled barbeque chicken tacos.  They were amazing.   Here Holly and Claire are seasoning up the beans and doing a few other last minute preperations.  Rebecca's sister Autumn was at the church to practice music so we got her in the picture as well.

Back home at Mother's we had a couple hours before needing to get ready for the noon wedding.

I see a grandson who would love to give it a try.  "Grandpa, can you show me how it's done?"

Dorie swinging on the same swing that I played on as a child.  I remember once swinging so high and fell off and broke my arm.  

It's now wedding time.   Before the service I was able to get a four generation picture of Mother, Me, Tim and Travis.

I didn't take pictures during the wedding.  Gave Dorie my phone at the reception and told her to go get a picture of the bride and groom.   So sweet!

Queena and Ethan came up from North Carolina to pick-up Dorie and James.   They were able to get in a little swim before heading back home.

The same swimming hole I swam in at their age.  Now how cool is that?

Dorie and James have been staying with us this week so mommy and daddy missed the party.   Queena and Ethan I thought you would enjoy seeing Dorie's expression when she opened your gift!

Grandpa gave her a CNA outfit for helping him out at the Nursing Home!

Travis got several shots yesterday so the new CNA was giving him his check-up.
